This is my first attempt at "focus stacking", which is a method of combining multiple shots of the same subject with different focal points. The idea is to achieve greater depth of field. It's a feature that's new in CS4, although other companies have offered it, before.
I had three shots that were slightly differently focused, so I decided to try it. Probably not the best shots for this, but it looks okay. I'm not sure it's any better than the best original, though.
I can't comment on the technique as I've never tried it myself but the finished image is very nice. Love the richness of the colour and the softness of the background.
Thanks, Nick. The technique is very easy although, like many things in PS, there is a trick you need to know, in order to get it to work. If you don't open the images in just the right way, it won't work.
The image is beautiful, the DOF through seems very "thin", I'm not sure of the term. Very good but very thin/limited in the good sense. I'm also not sure why you need three images to achieve this, you are a DOF Maestro anyway

Yeah, it's still quite thin/shallow. I'm not sure how much depth the stack added to it, to be honest. But, it does look a bit different.
I don't think this is the type of image they had in mind for this technique. I think it was intended for more "normal" images. But, I'd like to try it with some landscapes, if I ever get anywhere worth photographing.
Thank you for the compliment, but I can't claim to be a maestro

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
